Early Mother’s Day Lunch

My Mama is an avid cook and she’s very proud of the fact that I’ve taken an interest in it the last couple of years. We chat on the phone pretty often, most of the time the topic of “what are you making today?” comes up, and we exchange tips of what to do in the kitchen to make food taste better or healthier. I’ve decided for this year’s Mother’s Day, instead of taking her and my Dad out, I would cook some dishes of her choice. Earlier this week she picked out 3 dishes from my blog. I shopped and prepped the ingredients on Thursday, then brought the stuff over on Friday to cook for them. Here are some photos of my parents and the Mother’s Day dishes:

My super adorable and very hungry Parents waiting patiently for me to finish taking the photos.

My Mom chose Kung Pao Chicken, Steamed Fish and Black Bean Sauce over Tofu and Shrimp

I have to say it was a bit difficult to cook outside of the comfort of my kitchen, even though I did not want my Mom to lift a finger, but she had to help me retrieve dishes and cookware throughout the cooking process. It also took a little longer than expected, so I can tell my Parents were pacing back and forth (probably due to very hungry bellies). On top of that the sauce from the steamed fish overflown and dripped onto one of the cloth formal dining room chair, which I totally felt awful about… The good thing is my Parents were very patient and supportive, both gave me an “A” for the taste and efforts, so I was very happy that they enjoyed the lunch overall!

I hope you enjoyed this blog posting, I feel very fortunate to be able to do something nice for my Mom and Dad on my Mom’s special day. Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms who are reading. I can not wait to cash in the “coupons” my little girl made me, there are suppose to be some special treats in store for me (Animal care, breakfast in bed and massages) Yippeee!

Thank you Nami, I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day! I still have some left over coupons from Trini and can’t wait to use them!

  2. I phone with my mom very regularly, and we’ll quite often chat about cooking and food! She cooks very well, and can make a lot of dishes I’m naturally afraid of – like goulashs, pot roasts, awesome soups, and things like that. She recently told me how she makes pot roast, and I tried it myself and it was very yummy. 🙂 I believe it’s important to learn these things from your parents because they have so much experience in life, and you can learn so much from them if you ask and listen well. 🙂

Your parents are adorable! They look so kind! 🙂

Thank you Kath for your kind comments! I love my parents and they are super adorable, I can only wish to grow up like them! It’s lovely that you have a great relationship with your Mom, I love that she’s able to give you pointers on cooking her delicious dishes! My Mom cooks very healthy due to wanting to keep my Dad healthy, so now a days her dishes tend to be on the lighter side. I take my little girl to visit them every other week and she cooks a 10 course meal for everyone, it’s one of my biggest enjoyment!

      1. Aww, how lovely that you can see your parents so often! I live 600 km away from mine now, and miss them a lot! (Yay for phone and internet! :))
